On Wednesday 15th January, Lower Two pupils enjoyed an inspiring and interactive visit to Norwich Cathedral as part of the Bible's Big Story workshop. This fascinating day provided pupils with a deeper understanding of the stories within the Bible and how these influence Christians in their worship and practice.
Divided into small groups, pupils embarked on a journey through the Cathedral, discovering the stories depicted in the stained glass windows. They also explored the unique roof bosses that stretch across the Nave, where the entire Bible story is illustrated from beginning to end. Seeing well-known stories depicted in such a beautiful way helped bring to life the narratives they have studied in class.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity for pupils to participate in a symbolic baptism at the Font, experiencing a key moment in the life of a Christian. They also had the chance to dress up as a bishop, gaining insight into the significant symbolism of the clothes worn by church leaders during services.
The workshop continued with a storytelling session about Anna and Simeon, two important figures in the Bible, and an exploration of the significance behind the depiction of Mary, who is often portrayed wearing a red dress instead of the more commonly known blue.
To conclude the day, pupils had a creative session where they designed their own roof boss or stained glass window, inspired by the Biblical themes they had encountered throughout the workshop.
It was a day filled with learning, exploration, and creativity that brought the Bible’s Big Story to life in a truly memorable way.
