Sports Science

"Academic Physical Education and Sports Science is taught in the Fifth and Sixth Forms at Norwich School. At both GCSE and A level, pupils follow the AQA specification over a two-year linear course. Pupils learn and apply traditional disciplines of Sports Science, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, technology, psychology and sport in society as well as a range of sports and physical activities in the practical context.

An increasing number of pupils choose to study the subject, many of whom go on to read Sports Science at the universities most prominent in that discipline.

In both GCSE and A level specifications the emphasis is largely upon theory, with only a small element of practical assessment. The expertise and experience of our teachers, combined with our inspiring facilities, enable our pupils to consistently gain excellent grades.

In the Department we encourage pupils to develop an understanding of the many different factors that affect sporting performance. Ultimately, a grasp of how the human body behaves during physical activity, be it exercise or competitive sport, enables pupils to become better performers in their own right."
