Dance

"The Dance Department at Norwich School strives to develop an energetic, enthusiastic and healthy community of pupils, striving to give all pupils experience in a range of dance styles and dance performance. All pupils are encouraged to partake in a variety of dance events and dance classes, whilst providing gifted dancers the opportunities to work with industry professionals and choreograph for shows.   

Dance is becoming a high-profile presence in Norwich School life. From the Junior and Senior Dance Festivals to workshops with visiting companies, student lead projects, after school clubs and formal qualifications, there is something for everyone to engage with. 

The department gives regular performance opportunities, both on site in Blake and Gala stages, as well as at a range of venues from across the city and beyond. This has included showcases at the Garage, Epic Studios, The Puppet Theatre and The Space. Additionally, pupils have performed at external competitions alongside schools from across the country and have competed nationally. 

Workshops with visiting professional companies provide insight into professional practice and exciting opportunities to develop new skills. These have included musical theatre dance with Layton Williams, Contemporary Acro skills with Motionhouse Dance Theatre, Contemporary partnering and dance for film with James Cousins Company and Circus Skills at The Oak Circus Centre. 

Pupils study dance for many reasons: some dance purely for pleasure; some may go on to study Dance and Performing Arts at the UK’s universities and conservatoires; some may pursue successful professional careers.

Dance classes are currently offered as a games option for Inters and Seniors. These classes specifically cater for the pupils needs, taking their ability and dance experience into consideration. Pupils will work on technique as well as learning performance repertoire."
