Conisford

Conisford House is proud to share its name with the city’s famous royal gate. Situated by the King’s Ford river crossing, the gate was built as the royal entrance to Norwich - strong and sturdy, impressive and assured, yet unobtrusive in its everyday role in serving the hard-working industrial heart of the city. Accordingly, members of Conisford House are confident in their talents and abilities: Strong and inspiring, bold and self-assured, yet modest, hard-working and supportive of each other.

Our motto, "Never give up on the way to victory," reflects our drive and commitment to success – both as a House and through our individual efforts, not always winning but always striving to do our best.

Our sporting excellence and strengths in all disciplines showed through impressive individual and team performances through the year, and members also demonstrated their diversity of musical and acting talents on stage and in concert.

Magdalen

Magdalen House is named after another of our ancient city gates. It was an impressive construction of flint, brick and mortar, and built as part of the city walls to control trade and defend the town.

Magdalen House members believe that it is important to work as a team and lead by example, always giving of our best and supporting each other. We view friendship and good sportsmanship as being central to our philosophy, as illustrated by the ‘shaking hands’ symbol on our shield. We pride ourselves on being dignified in both success and defeat.

Heigham

As members of Heigham House we pride ourselves on being the strongest team players in the Lower School. We may not win every trophy but we always give 110% in every house event that we take part in. We enjoy making plenty of noise to cheer on our housemates during house sports events and we work like a well-oiled machine at all times!

On our house shield there are olive branches symbolising peace and victory as well as a red dragon that symbolises our passion and bravery, and strikes fear into the hearts of our opponents!

The battle lines were drawn... The Theme was ANIMALS and it was all down to the pupils to organise and rehearse their houses! The Lower School House Music Festival 2024 was an absolute triumph. Heigham, Magdalen and Conisford choosing songs from The Beatles, Culture Club and Survivor all gave incredible performances in the Hall, led and directed by the House Captains, Harrison Rafftree, Ben McNeilly and Josh Bevan. Head of Singing from the Senior School Mrs Walton came down to adjudicate and was incredibly impressed with the standard of singing, stage presence, diction, intonation, and enthusiasm from each House. The singing truly raised the roof! It was a close competition with only a few marks in between each place. The worthy winners were announced as Conisford and their version of ‘The Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor. Huge congratulation s to Conisford and well done to everyone for taking part, and a special ‘bravo’ to the 3 House Captains for their excellent work in leading and directing their Houses so well

On Friday 9 February, The Norwich Lower School enjoyed another fantastic House Challenge Day. Despite the weather not being the most cooperative, the pupils had a brilliant day full of excitement, teamwork and friendly competition. In the morning, the Lower School was buzzing with various challenges in each room, such as spaghetti towers, world challenges, balloon races and many more. Pupils ventured in their Houses from one challenge to the next eager to find out what awaited them. The pupils seemed to particularly enjoy the indoor assault course for which great teamwork was crucial. In this challenge, pupils were paired up; one was blindfolded, the other tasked with leading them through the course. The blindfolded pupil was also required to carry a cup of water throughout the duration of the challenge without spilling it! And the added catch... the leader could only guide them with words! This challenge was not only incredibly invigorating for pupils but also relied on mutual sense of trust between the pairs. In the afternoon, it was the Infants time to shine in the House Challenge. The challenges slightly varied from the rest of the school with activities such as the water cup challenge where pupils worked to gather as much water as they can in a water bucket, with added complications such as having to carry pass the water to one another over their heads! This was enjoyed in the Reception Garden where the sun decided to show its face. The scores were close, and it was only because of the teacher-based ‘Would I Lie to You?’ quiz that Conisford could get some extra points and win the day this year. All three Houses picked up some bonus points for excellent teamwork. It was another great opportunity for our U3 pupils to work with pupils in L2 and demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities.

The House Music Festival took place in the Lower School Hall on Friday with Heigham, Magdalen and Conisford battling it out to be House Music Champions for 2023. The children have been rehearsing for a couple of weeks and were extremely excited to be performing their songs. The theme of the House Music Festival this year was COLOURS. Conisford chose Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Any Dream Will Do from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Heigham’s song was the classic rock anthem Mr Blue Sky by ELO and Magdalen channelled their inner Barbie with the song Pink from the new movie. All 3 houses performed exceptionally well, and the Lower School Hall was covered in dazzling lighting effects and swirls of colour. After the votes were cast and counted, the joint 2nd place houses were Conisford and Heigham, meaning a win for Magdalen! Congratulations to Magdalen and well done to everyone who took part and worked so hard to put the event on.

The houses of Magdalen, Conisford and Heigham performed with great gusto in the Annual House Music Festival. The theme this year was Musicals. The pupils have been in rehearsal for the last 2 weeks and the staff were treated to performances of Food Glorious Food from Oliver, This is Me from The Greatest Showman and Pirates of the Sea from Peter Pan. A fantastic celebration of singing and performance. The votes were counted and each House was awarded 125 points resulting in a three way tie! Congratulations to everyone involved!
