News from Reception

On Monday 2 December, Reception performed their annual Nativity to parents, "Countdown to Christmas". It was a magical and heartwarming event that truly captured the spirit of Christmas. The children sang with such enthusiasm and joy, filling the hall with an array of beautiful and fun songs. Each song was performed with confidence, and the children thrilled the audience with their renditions of "Knock, Knock" and "Christmas Counts for Everyone". The acting was equally impressive, with every child fully embracing their role, from Mary and Joseph, The Three Wise Men, to shepherds and angels galore! Mrs Barclay, Head of Infants, commented "We have had an extremely busy term with performances, and the children worked so hard to learn their lines and 8 brand new songs. I am so proud of their performance! It was a truly wonderful event that showcases the confidence and enthusiasm of such young children."

Reception class have been exchanging letters with the residents of the Great Hospital. The residents have not only enjoyed receiving these letters but have also responded with their own heartfelt messages. On Tuesday 14 May, Reception had the delightful opportunity to visit the residents in person, bringing along their favourite soft toys. Meeting their new pen pals face-to-face was a truly wonderful experience, allowing the pupils to enhance their communication skills and connect with members of our community. We’re eagerly looking forward to continuing this heartwarming exchange after the half-term break. It was a delight to see so many smiling faces from pupils and residents alike.

As a part of the FoNS bid, Reception received a grant for electric trucks to enhance their skills in teamwork and coordination! Reception have been using the new electric cars and already we are seeing such incredible language and communication. Children are negotiating, sharing, coordinating and simply LOVING their new toys. They want to share these experiences with their friends and use the cars with two people in each car. This has also inspired the children to do more construction play as the trucks can tip out their loads. Thank you so much to FoNS for this wonderful addition to our EYFS!
