On the last day of term, pupils from L4 and U4 accompanied by Mrs Brown and Mr Jenkins, had the exciting opportunity to attend their first-ever VEX Robotics competition held at St Helena School in Colchester. Our pupils had worked incredibly hard all term, building and improving their robots, as well as learning to drive them. VEX Robotics develops a different competition game every year, allowing pupils to enhance both their engineering and programming skills. This year's competition, called 'Rapid Relays,' involves teams working in collaboration with another team to collect mini footballs and shoot them into a goal to score as many points as possible in one minute. It is a fast-paced game and not as easy as it looks!
A total of 24 teams attended the event, and our teams each competed in 10 qualification matches. Our U4 team qualified for the finals by finishing in the top 16 teams. They performed exceptionally well in their final match, scoring 56 points, which was the highest score of the day. There was a nail-biting wait while the remaining finals matches were played. It was only in the final seconds of the very last match that another team managed to beat our score, with the final match ending with a score of 57 points.
Overall, it was a really fun day, we all learnt a lot and are looking forward to attending another competition later in the Lent term.
