We are thrilled to announce the launch of Little Roots, an exciting new initiative that promises to nurture both plants and young minds in the Lower School. This hands-on gardening project is located in a newly developed area just beyond the Reception garden, and features a potting shed and eight raised beds.
Little Roots offers Junior pupils the chance to step into the wonderful world of gardening. At lunchtime, they can roll up their sleeves to sow seeds, care for growing plants and eventually harvest their produce. Whether it’s crunchy carrots, fragrant herbs or vibrant flowers, the children will have the satisfaction of seeing their hard work blossom.
The produce grown in the allotment will either be used in our school kitchens to create delicious, fresh meals or taken home by the young gardeners. Little Roots encourages sustainability, promotes healthy eating and fosters a deeper connection with nature.
This initiative has been made possible by support of our school community and local partners, Great Moulton Nurseries offering us discounts on many essential items, and to the Bee Friendly Trust kindly donating us a fantastic bug hotel to enhance our eco-friendly environment.
We hope that Little Roots will inspire a new generation of gardeners, instilling a lifelong love for growing and caring for plants. So, whether your child has green fingers, or is just curious about what it takes to grow a garden, this is their chance to get involved, learn, and have fun!
Let’s watch Little Roots - growing together!
