This term, pupils in Lower and Middle 5 had the fantastic opportunity to perform Antigone, the ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles, written nearly two and a half thousand years ago. With only a basic understanding of the play's plot, I was keen to see how this promising and talented group of actors would bring the complex text and storyline to life. The result was nothing short of outstanding!
Performed in the round, the cast demonstrated skill and confidence, engaging the audience from start to finish. Their skilful portrayals and the creative use of the Blake Studio added depth to the production, enhancing the audience's experience. The balance of dramatic tension and emotional intensity made for a truly engaging evening.
Congratulations to all members of the cast for their dedication and talent, and a special thanks to Mr. Bromley for his guidance and effort in bringing this excellent production to the stage.
“I thought it was great to see the Fifth Form taking on such an ambitious play. With a thrust stage, it was an imaginative use of the Blake and the members of the chorus were superb in the balcony. The setting gave this play’s ancient exploration of tyranny a contemporary feel that suggested gang violence and societal decay. Some excellent performances from some of the leads such as Barney Fay and Florence Knowles – I look forward to seeing this cohort develop as actors in the years ahead.” – Audience Member
