On Saturday 1 February, Lower 6 Chemists ventured to Cambridge for the Cambridge Chemistry Race at the Yusef Hamied Department of Chemistry in Cambridge. Well done to Matthew Coelho-Bartram, Ana Paduraru, Charlie Hutchinson, Tom Irvine and Adit Raje, who represented Norwich School.
Faced with a gruelling two-hour competition, they worked their way through progressively more difficult and obscure questions on a wide range of topics, from the energy released by detonating different types of explosives, to the organic structures of luciferins (compounds enabling bioluminescence). At the end of the race, the 'Norwich Nucleophiles' scored a very respectable 67 points in total.
Well done to all those who took part and many thanks to Dr Boutemy who together with Mrs Pywell accompanied the trip.
