On Wednesday 26 November, Norwich School’s Charity’s Committee welcomed Rachael Mittel from Brave Futures. Rachael is the fundraiser in the Norfolk area, and she came to Norwich School to tell us more about Brave Futures in a school assembly.
Brave Futures is a charity based in Norfolk that helps to support young people up to the age of 18 that have experienced some form of sexual abuse. The Charity’s Committee were pleased to hear that Norwich School is the first organisation to support Brave Futures.
Rachael told us that Brave Futures offer a safe space for young people to speak up and make sense of the confusion they feel through the use of counselling and therapeutic support.
They provide skills and tools not only to young people but also to the families of those affected. Helping them to re-build their futures and manage the trauma they have faced to help them move from victim to survivor.
Rachael informed us that what makes Brave Futures so supportive is they provide an unlimited amount of sessions to those affected. This is until the individual and their family's have made the decision that they have received as much support as possible, and they are ready to take on the next stage in their life. Whereas some charity’s only offer a set number of sessions before they move onto another person in the system.
Rachael told us that as Brave Futures is a small, newly established charity, the money Norwich School raised at our home clothes day would make a significant impact on the charity.
Therefore, members of the charity’s committee encourage you to look at Brave Futures website and help in any way that you can. This truly is a wonderful charity to support that provides so much care for those who have experienced what young people never should.
To all the pupils and parents who contributed to the funds for Brave Futures, the Charity’s Committee would like to thank you for your wonderful generosity and support.
