On the weekend of 23/24 November, the school’s ski teams braved Storm Bert to travel to Wales and compete in the British School Championships. Llandudno represented a new challenge with all bar two of our skiers visiting the slope for the first time. With the girls team down to only 3 skiers there was no margin for error. Ella Barnovschi and Sophie Slinger both skied cleanly to finish respectably in the midfield. Antonia Watson finished 2nd in the female competition, a mere 0.11s off first place and the girls team achieved 10th place, an excellent performance in very difficult conditions.
The boys team were defending their title from last year. Rufus Snelling finished 3rd and Marcus Pop 8th in the U16 category, with Toby Watson and George Snelling 1st and 2nd in the U18 category. The Norwich School boys ran our comfortable winners, with an aggregate 7 second win to retain their British title. Toby also won the individual Male title by over a second, regaining the title he won 2 years ago.
There are 2 more school ski races this academic year. Sunday April 27th in Ipswich for the ERSA schools race and Monday 30th June in Hemel for the ESSKIA indoors championships. Anyone interested in getting involved in ski racing please email Mr Cheongvee tcheongvee@norwich-school.org.uk
