This week saw 11 talented Norwich School hockey players compete in the girls and boys England Hockey Talent Academy Cup.
The Talent Academy forms the last pathway stage below full National Age Group (i.e. England U16, U18, U21) representation. Players are selected from both TA Cup and existing National squads for further consideration for National squads for the following year. The Tournament saw 23 Talent Academy squads, plus a Welsh Representative team, play matches over 4 days at the Beeston Hockey Centre in Nottingham.
For the boys, 7 Norwich School pupils were selected for the 20 player East Talent Academy squad - Fraser Evans (GK), Lawrence Williams (Captain), George Rivett, Ralf Braybrook, Ben Griffiths, Tom Irvine, Charlie Hutchinson
The team were overall winners of the cup with decisive wins in all their games:
Game 1 Win 5-4 over last year's overall winners, East Grinstead TA
Game 2 Win 4-0 over Durham TA
Game 3 Win 4-3 over Bristol
The final, against Wales, saw Norwich School’s Braybrook and Irvine score, leading to a 3-1 victory, to take the title.
11 of the 16 goals were scored by NS pupils, with Fraser Evans in goal making multiple critical saves during the tournament, including two key penalty corner saves in the Final.
The girls were represented by 4 Norwich School pupils - Perdie Finch, Poppy Francis, Uma Patel and Chloe Holmes, who also gave a solid performance in their matches:
Game 1 Win 1-0 over East Grinstead TA.
Game 2 Win 1-0 over Durham TA
Game 3 Lost 0--3 to Bristol TA
Play Off Match Lost 0-2 to Cambridge TA
