The Trinity Term is always a busy term for the Boat Club, with our Regatta Season, although the preparation for this started on training camp in Brive, France, with 57 rowers training hard and making improvements in their boat speed.
The first Regattas of the season were Wallingford and Bedford. Some really close racing gave a taster for the regatta season ahead, but also gave us an idea as to where we were nationally and what we could improve on.
The National Schools regatta was held over 3 days at Dorney Lake. The J14s and J15 sculling crews raced well on their introduction to multi lane racing. The Saturday saw the J15 Sweep crews and Senior Girls and Boys racing. The Senior Girls and J16 Boys raced well in their coxed fours. The afternoon saw both the J15 Girls 8 and J15 Boys race in the A Final. This was the first time we had a Girls 8 in an A Final at a National Schools event. A finish place of 6th nationally was fantastic. The Boys Coxed Four had an exhilarating final , finishing with a well-earned silver medal. Finally the Senior Boys 8 raced on Saturday and Sunday, finishing 12th nationally, which was the highest placed finish the school has achieved in Championship 8s.
The Senior Girls Coxed Four raced at Women's Henley regatta. missing out on qualification by 0.1 seconds. This was a tough place to finish but the girls all have another year to race. The Senior Boys 8 and Quad, raced well at Marlow before turning their attention to qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta. The 1st VIII secured qualification and have subsequently beaten Monmouth School by 2 ½ lengths on Tuesday at Henley. the next round saw us up against Eton, a tough challenge and despite a superb effort we lost to a very strong crew. A fantastic henley Campaign- well done to you all.
In amongst Henley Qualifiers and the Regatta, Archie Wilkins and Nicholas Conway attended J16 GB trials, They have been selected to represented Great Britain at the j16 GB- France Match in Rouen on 13th July. A fantastic result and good luck in your first race in a GB vest.
