On Thursday 23 January 2025 the Chapel was abrim with musical delight for the world première of Isaac Schaad's (L5) Divertimento for Strings. The first movement of the Divertimento was awarded first prize by Dame Judith Weir in the Guildhall School’s RELEASE composition competition in September 2024.
The recital began with Isaac and Brenda Blewett (pianist) playing the works of Vivaldi, Mozart, Bach and Kabalevsky all of which were excellently delivered and received. Following this, Isaac introduced his Divertimento and was accompanied by Musicians amongst Norwich School Staff and beyond.
Isaac commented, "I have been composing, to a greater or lesser degree, for as long as I can remember. I still have one or two notebooks from when I was about five years old, with almost indecipherable musical scribblings. In the intervening eight or so years, my interest in composition has increased exponentially. The privilege was all the greater, therefore, to hear my Divertimento for Strings performed by a group of such excellent string players. It was a delight to work with them, and the experience I have gained from hearing my music played by professional musicians, rather than a piece of music software, has been phenomenal. The music truly came alive!"
Thank you very much to the musicians who performed!
