The City Schools Cross Country at Redmayne serves as the qualifying round for the Norfolk Schools Championships that will take place early next term. Runners need to finish in the top 10 of the respective races, against runners from six city-based schools, to make it through to the next round. We had twenty-one hopefuls from L4 to U5 who were aiming to do just that. Eight of our runners were successful.
In muddy, drizzling conditions, the first race was the Junior Girls. In a competitive field of around 30 year 7 runners, Emi Muntingh took an early lead and held it the whole race to win convincingly. Ophee Martin also ran strongly but just missed out in the top ten this time.
For the year 7 boys, Samuel Trickey came 3rd, just missing out on 2nd place in a sprint for the line.
The intermediate girls were our most successful team, with 4 pupils qualifying for the next round. Niamh McAuley came 3rd in the race, Nona Griffiths 7th, Sophie Ruddy 8th, Ruby Ivie 9th and Nola Woodeson 12th.
In the intermediate boys, Herbie Andrews secured his place in the County round by coming 6th.
The numbers were thin for the seniors. But Amelie Ivie gave the race her all - as she always does - and finished in an excellent 2nd place.
Congratulations to those named who qualified for the County round, which will take place at Wymondham College in mid-January.
