This year’s Gather festival kicked off in style with the Junior Musical – Annie, co-directed by Lower Sixth pupils Jacob Stevenson and Cleo Gregory for their Independent Project. An impressive cast of 26 pupils from Lower to Upper 4 filled the Blake Studio and delighted audiences with this classic musical.
Miss Hannigan (Jennifer Mardle) perfectly captured the cruelty and hilarity of the character, whilst the pupils who played the orphans brought to life every single character and their mischievousness. The story’s protagonist was played by Isla Lowery, who did a brilliant job of bringing Annie’s story to the stage. A particularly heartwarming exchange was one with Annie, Grace (Evie Alexander) and Mr Warbucks (Charlie McNeilly) that brought the play together for a heartwarming finale and had audience members cheering along for a reprise of the well-loved song Tomorrow.
The pupils enthusiasm and love of performing, the energetic dances and the fantastic direction culminated in a touching performance which was both uplifting, sentimental and a testament to the talent of all those who took part.
Jacob and Cleo commented – “Putting on the Fourth Form musical has certainly been one of the most challenging but rewarding activities we have done throughout our entire Norwich School career. The pupils have been filled with enthusiasm ever since our very first rehearsal, and its safe to say the energy and passion this incredible bunch have provided us with never died down. We are so incredibly grateful to have been able to contribute to Gather24 and we would like to give our thanks to all involved. We will miss every single one of this talented bunch!””
