Norwich School places great importance on group music making and there is a structured framework of ensembles through which pupils may progress. Instrumentalists are monitored and nurtured from Lower 1 to U6 and encouraged to keep a balance with academic work and a chance for some music.

There are opportunities both for instrumentalists and vocalists of all standards, and experience and age are taken into account when placing a pupil in a group.  26 different music groups rehearse weekly across the Senior and Lower schools, all of which are directed by specialist music staff.  As soon as beginners can play a few notes they are encouraged to join in a weekly ensemble.  Group performances are a feature of each term. Rehearsals take place at lunchtime and after school.
